Soil and land are one of humanity's most important resources. Yet at the same time, the future of those resources is at stake. Desertification, land degradation and drought are among the most pressing environmental challenges of our time: A third of the world's land is already considered degraded. Despite this, soil-based production accounts for over 95 per cent of our food. But how can we preserve soil and land in the long term?
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on 17 June focuses on issues such as these. This year, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is hosting the World Day. In this context, State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth discusses the relevance of healthy soils for our future. Further, stakeholders from the private sector, research and implementation will present their projects and show how they are already making a contribution to healthy soils for current and future generations.

Böden und Land sind eine der wichtigsten Ressourcen der Menschheit. Gleichzeitig steht die Zukunft dieser Ressource auf dem Spiel. Wüstenbildung, Bodendegradation und Dürre gehören zu den drängendsten Umweltproblemen unserer Zeit. Ein Drittel der weltweiten Landfläche gilt bereits als degradiert. Dabei werden mehr als 95 Prozent unserer Nahrungsmittel auf der Grundlage von Böden erzeugt. Doch wie können wir Boden und Land langfristig erhalten?
Fragen wie diese nimmt der Welttag gegen Wüstenbildung und Dürre am 17. Juni in den Blick. In diesem Jahr ist das Bundesentwicklungsministerium (BMZ) Gastgeber des Welttags. Vor diesem Hintergrund diskutiert Staatssekretär Jochen Flasbarth die Relevanz von gesunden Böden für unsere Zukunft. Zudem stellen Akteure aus der Privatwirtschaft, Forschung und Umsetzung ihre Projekte vor und zeigen, wie sie schon heute einen Beitrag zu gesunden Böden für heutige und künftige Generationen leisten.
